Affiliation with Cardiovascular Medical Group of Southern California (CVMG)

Cardiovascular Medical Group of Southern California (CVMG) is the preeminent Southern California practice specializing in diseases of the heart and blood vessels of the adult patient. Established 35 years ago by Drs. Bleifer and Karpman, this medium-sized physician group has the finest specialists in general cardiology as well as interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and preventive cardiology. Many of the physicians also practice general internal medicine. The group has an excellent referral network of specialists throughout the Southern California area to assist in patient care. Associated cardiologists are also available, including Emeritus Cardiologist Dr. Jeremy Swan.

Because of the depth of expertise of its physician members, the office has extensive facilities for outpatient cardiac evaluation, including stress testing, heart rhythm evaluation and cardiac imaging. In addition, its physicians are on staff at the surrounding hospitals, enabling patients to make use of a broad range of facilities. Extensive research opportunities are available for patients with difficult to treat conditions or where optimal therapy is not yet known even for common conditions.

Affiliation with Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) and Access Clinical Trials (ACT)

Cardiovascular Research Institute of Southern California (CVRI)  is a nationally prominent tertiary clinical research facility. The Research Institute was initiated in 1980 as a section of the Cardiovascular Medical Group of Southern California (CVMG). Its goal is to establish better treatments for heart and blood vessel conditions using the latest modalities available through controlled trials monitored by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). The research programs are supported by pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, universities and private sources. The results of the research trials have been presented at major national meetings and published in internationally recognized, peer reviewed journals.

In 1995 affiliates from all over Southern California joined the effort of CVRI to provide a coordinated research effort. A partnership was formed with CVRI and the Pulmonary Research Institute (PRI) of Southern California, the Neurological Research Institute of Southern California (NRI), and the Kidney and Metabolic Research Institute of Southern California (KMI). These institutes are joined together as Access Clinical Trials (ACT). The physicians of ACT are internationally recognized authorities in Cardiology, Pulmonary, Neurology and Renal specialties.
